Whether having had a bad experience with a gym yourself or a maybe something that happened to a friend or a family member, most people these days have a negative gym story of some sort that can definitely turn them off training & hold them back from taking the steps necessary to achieve the level of health, fitness and the physique that they’re are after, and that just simply sucks!
The list of reasons not to join a gym is long and varied:
❌Pushy Salespeople trying to sell long term lock in contracts
❌Those same salesmen ignoring you when you bring legitimate issues to management
❌Less than sanitary toilets
❌Lack of privacy in poorly designed changerooms
❌Gross, sweaty meat head gorillas using the gym
❌Annoying girls trying to hit on the gross sweaty meat head gorillas
❌Not enough equipment
❌Equipment that’s broken & out of order
❌Crowded spaces that feel more like a nightclub than a health space
❌A lack of qualified, experienced, interested staff looking to help you towards your goals
So yes, there’s plenty of things that can turn you off from training at the gym!
But let’s say you actually find a great place to train, your next challenge becomes figuring out how to actually lose the weight, tone up and sculpt the dream body you’re after?
The questions you need to ask yourself then are different but just as important:
Is there someone who will guide you through the whole process?
What program should you follow?
What should your nutrition look like?
What exercises should you be doing?
Who will ensure the exercises you are doing are safe & effective?
Aside from a number on the scales, how will you know that the plan is working?
Who will keep you accountable when you start to stray off the plan?
